It is September 4, 1964. For a moment she sees herself as a young girl, carefree, before her face was horribly disfigured in an accident. A local’s nosy question prompts her to look forward to the healing she expects to receive from a televangelist in Tulsa that will help her transcend her provincial little town and the eventual discovery of the true meaning of beauty. Nominated for four Tony Awards in 2014. Music is Bluegrass, Memphis Blues and Gospel. 11 Roles Violet – Female, Age 20 to 35, Vocal range G3 to F5 Flick – African American Male, Age 20 to 30, Vocal Range C4 to E6 Monty – Male, Age 20 to 30, Vocal Range A3 to G5 Young Vi – Female, Age 12 to 15, Vocal Range A3 to E5 Father – Male, Age 35 to 45, Vocal Range A3 to F5 Old Lady (then doubling) – Female, Age 55 to 65, Vocal range F3 to E5 Preacher (then doubling) – Male, Age 30 to 40, Vocal Range B3 to G5 Virgil (then doubling) – Male, Age 20 to 25, Vocal Range B3 to B5 Music Hall Singer (then doubling) – Female, Age 35 to 45, Vocal Range A3 to G5 Lulu Buffington (then doubling) – African American Female, Age 40 to 60, Vocal Range F3 to G5 Leroy Evans (then doubling) – Male, Age 50 to 70, Vocal Range B3 to F5 You only have to attend one of the times. Auditioners should prepare 16 to 32 bars of music; bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. If you don’t have a prepared song, feel free to sing “Happy Birthday” since the directors need to hear your voice and range. There will be cold readings from the provided script. THANK YOU!
